Alzheimers New Zealand
As New Zealanders grow older, it's inevitable that more people will need help to deal with the devastating effects of dementia.
Fortunately, Alzheimers NZ is here to help take the strain and provide practical support to people living with the condition, as well as their carers and family.
Countdown supports Alzheimers NZ throughout the year with the Cuppa for a Cause Appeal and an annual charity golf day.
Cuppa for a Cause
In 2010 we again supported Alzheimers NZ's Cuppa for a Cause Appeal.
Countdown, Foodtown, Woolworths, SuperValue and Fresh Choice supermarkets donated 20 cents for every pack of Signature Range coffee and Select tea and specially packaged lamingtons sold during July.
Our supermarkets raised more than $45,250.00 for the Appeal.
Charity Golf Day
New Zealand’s largest charity golf day, sponsored by Progressive, netted $153,000 for Alzheimers Auckland this year.
This year 300 golfers gathered at the Titirangi Golf Course on 25 February.
The day consisted of two rounds of golf, lunch, dinner and two auctions.
Progressive has been the overall sponsor for the past nine years.
For the last seven of those, proceeds totalling around $750,000 have been donated to Alzheimers Auckland.
Alzheimers Auckland is a charitable trust, based in Royal Oak, that provides free services to all Aucklanders affected by dementia. It relies heavily on donations for its continued work in providing information, education and support.
The charity’s General Manager, Bonnie Robinson said: “We are indebted to sponsors Progressive, organisers Parnell Rotary and all 300 people who took part.”

Parnell Rotarian John Reeves serves up a BBQ to one of the business teams supporting Alzheimers Auckland at New Zealand's largest charity golf day.

Peter Smith, Bonnie Robinson and Marius Fouche were among the 300 golfers who helped raise $153,000 for charity.
